Dear Parents, 

As the final bell rings and we officially head into the summer holidays, I want to take a moment to update you on the events this week and wish everyone a wonderful summer rest after a fantastic school year.

This week has been an exceptionally busy week here at Scoil Bhríde.

Farewell to Our 6th Class

On Monday, we bid a very special farewell to our wonderful 6th class students. It was an emotional and proud day for the whole school. We wish them the absolute best of luck as they take their next big steps into secondary school…… they will be greatly missed.

 A Star-Studded Success

Yesterday’s “Straffan goes to Hollywood” school fundraiser event for Straffan GAA was a great success. Thank you to Ms. Phelan, Ms. Ní Ghríofa, Ms. Flynn and Ms. Giblin who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the morning a memorable occasion.  Also Thank you to Barberstown Castle for the loan of the red carpet to help bring the Lights, Camera, Action to life and give everything a Hollwood feel. It was lovely to see all the parents who came out to support our amazing children and staff. It was an unforgettable way to wrap up the year.

Happy Retirement, Ms. Giblin

The highlights didn’t end there. Yesterday had a double feature with a surprise school community farewell for our beloved Ms. Giblin, marking the end of a remarkable 24 years of dedication to Straffan National School and the conclusion of a long, inspiring teaching career.

“We want to formally acknowledge and thank Ms. Giblin for her long incredible service, warmth, and care. She has shaped so many young minds and will be deeply missed by children, staff, and parents alike.”

We wish her a long, healthy, and incredibly happy retirement.

We also bid farewell to Ms. O Reilly, Ms. Gallagher and Ms. Dunne who are moving on to new adventures.  We will be welcoming back Ms. Carr, Ms. Broderick, Ms. Gallagher and Ms. Moriarty next year.

Thank you to our entire school community, Parents Association, staff, and children for making this year so special. I hope everyone gets the chance to fully wind down, relax, and enjoy the long, sunny summer days ahead.

We are delighted to announce a major fundraising initiative in 2026 which will help secure future facilities at Straffan GAA. On November 6th, ‘Straffan Goes to Hollywood’ will take place at the K Club and will showcase Straffan at its best! With 7 short films on the night, we want you to come along and enjoy a night of fun and craic as we are entertained by all our wonderful local actors.
This joint initiative between Straffan GAA, Straffan Camogie and Straffard LGFA will see the whole community come together to provide modern and better-changing facilities for all our players. All money raised through this fundraiser will be spent exclusively on this, so we need your help.
However….to get there – we need YOU, THE ACTORS! We are hosting a casting night in Friels on 30 April at 8pm. You don’t have to have any experience… just have a willingness to help out and do your part for Straffan.
So, whether you’re a parent, a player, a supporter or a member of the Straffan community – We Need Your Help.
Play your part in Straffan’s future and get involved in the film making.
