Message from the Principal

Welcome to our website. We hope that you find it both interesting and informative about everything we do here at Scoil Bhríde, Straffan.

Straffan Village is situated in north east Kildare along the river Liffey and River Morrell.  The village name is the anglicised form of the original, Teach Strafáin, which translates as “Church of St. Srafán”, a saint in the early Irish church who resided in the area at the end of the 7th  century.  Straffan Village is just 30km from Dublin and is located close to the large towns of Celbridge, Maynooth, Clane and Naas. The 13 th  Century Barberstown Castle and the K Club Hotel and Golf Club, on the grounds of Straffan estate are two luxury hotels located in the village with historical significance.

The community in Straffan is noted for its voluntary efforts and a sense of pride in the local area. This spirit is evident with the success of the local Tidy Towns who have presented the best town in the county every year since 2007.  The group claimed the title of Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town at the 2013 Tidy Towns Awards and have been Gold Medal winners ever since.  We are very proud to be the only primary school in Straffan Village and to be part of a dynamic community.

Scoil Bhride, Straffan is a co-educational, Catholic Primary school located within the picturesque historical village of Straffan Village in Co. Kildare.  We are rapidly growing and we have 414 pupils attending our school.  We currently have School Principal ,17 class teachers and 4 fulltime special education teachers, one shared special education teacher as well as seven Special Needs Assistants, one full time secretary, 2 caretakers. We opened our Autism Classroom in 2022 which has 6 children enrolled.

As a Catholic primary school we strive to provide a well-ordered, caring, happy and secure atmosphere where the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and culture needs of the pupils are identified and addressed.

As Principal of Scoil Bhríde, Straffan, my aim is to ensure that every child is happy in school.  As a Care School, we value and nurture our core values and qualities to ensure that kindness and wellbeing is encouraged.  We work as a Team where we are inclusive of everyone. Scoil Bhríde welcomes and encourages the co-operation and involvement of parents and guardians in the education of their children and acknowledges the significant benefits of effective partnership between school, home and Board of Management.
