Dear Parents,
I would like to thank those of you who are continuously working with us in the school to ensure that the children get to school safely and reduce congestion outside the school grounds. So far this year we have seen a huge improvement in traffic management in comparison to other years due to the changes we have made for the arrivals of children to school due to Covid-19.
However, it is necessary to remind some people of the need to be mindful of road safety around the school vicinity.
I am asking that everyone becomes extremely aware of our young children crossing roads and those who are getting out of cars to get to school.
• We operate a Drop and Go at the school if you need to drive.
• If you are parking at the school, please reverse into the car park space so you have full visibility of children getting out of cars before you exit after you drop your child.
• Never drop your child off in the middle of traffic.
• Also, we ask that children are dropped off at the layby so they can get onto the path safely.
• Try to operate a one way system by coming down the New Road and pull in at the layby at the school gate and keep going to the Barberstown Road. This will ensure No U Turning outside the school wall.
• We are a Green school so we encourage the “Walk to School Initiative”. We are asking as many as possible to walk to school especially when the weather is fine.
We have noticed this week that there are a few parents reversing out onto the road where children are crossing. This is a serious risk to the children’s lives. We urge that everyone gives their full attention to their driving, follow the advice above and slow down around the school.
The safety of everyone on the road is of paramount importance to us all and we appreciate your support in this. For further information please see the RSA for further information on Road Safety.

Everybody has a responsibility to ensure their child gets to school safely. I’m sure you agree.
