We are beyond proud of our 6th class pupil Niall Power who represented our school and was placed as a runner up in the Intel Mini Scientist National Final this week with his project titled Stress.

Niall has written a wonderful piece about his success at a National Level.  Also please find the link to the article published about the competition at Intel.

My Mini Scientists Experience

-Niall Power

At 10 in the morning, Monday, March 11th I arrived at Intel for the grand final of Intel mini scientists.

As soon as I walked into the building I could already see how serious my competition was going to be but I kept my head up high and stayed confident.

3 groups of judges came over to my project and asked a lot of tough questions. The judging stage lasted for two hours with a half hour lunch break in between, where I was able to catch up with friends i had made at the previous round.

Once the official judging started all parents and teachers had to leave the room, there was a lot of talking so I made sure to have some mints so that i wouldn’t get a sore throat.

When the judges finished they had a meeting in another room so they could evaluate the projects. During this time all the participants were invited to watch a science show, which was really entertaining.

The time flew by and soon enough It was time to see who had won.

They started by gIving prizes to everybody who had taken part in the competition and had made it this far, then they would name the category winners which were innovation, scientific, communication and sustainability.

The next biggest award was for the 4 runner ups and overall winner.

I went on to become a runner up which is a massive achievement, not just for me but for the whole school.

Im seriously proud of myself not only for making it this far but also for how well I did against such tough competition.
